Alison Smithson (1928-1993) y Peter Smithson (1923-2003), dos de los más influyentes y polémicos arquitectos de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, trataron de adaptar las ideas progresistas del movimiento moderno de antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial a las necesidades específicas del ser humano durante el periodo de reconstrucción de la posguerra.
